The therapeutic procedure of applying the Sneha Dravya to the eyes is known as Akshitarpana. This procedure is useful in both in healthy as well as diseased persons. In healthy persons Akshitarpana is carried out for preventive purpose to protect the eye from degeneration due to ageing process and to improve the eyesight. While in diseased person it is to cure the diseases of eyes.

Making the rim around eyes and pouring the ghee: – This circular rim of black gram paste is placed around the eyes and the medicated Ghrita is applied.
